I don't think they were concealed at all. When I studied keynesianism in a euroschool, they highlighted the many trade wars against the USA since the European block's inception and how they won each one decisively.
But they are in fast decay now
I don't think the EU would win a trade war today, no. But it's all meaningless. The people that decide these outcomes control both the USA and the EU. Where they decided that the EU would win trade wars in the 90s, 00s and 10s they now decided that war needs to be waged against Russia, EU energy infrastructure needs to explode and Germany needs to deindustrialize. They win, we all lose.
