There's a lot of Chinese in the global feed. Nostr is GREAT for China. The Chinese people need censorship resistant social communication. 🤙

Absolutely. Been trying to reply to Chinese posts here and there to bridge the gap.

It’s awesome. The translation APIs aren’t quite there yet, but I’m pasting Chinese notes into Google and replying to try and help people set up pfps & LNURLs

You are doing great work.

🙏💜

Would be a real shame if the people of China found a means to communicate broadly without censorship.

For the CCP that is.

🤔

Could be a game changer for China.

The Great Firewall could block specific relays, but brand new ones can pop up in an instant. It's too much of a moving target for them to block entirely. It's great. I hope a plethora of Chinese users start to use Damus. If that's the case, China will ask Apple to pull the app, and then Apple will cave to China again. But hopefully by that point many Chinese users will just start using web app clients.

There's also the issue of privacy of past events. One should be ready to burn its private key if in danger. I'm no techie, by it would be nice to know if client-relay comms are encrypted, so that key ID data for events is only disclosed at the relay. I'm thinking plausible deniability of certain data being originated from your phone.

the only way to fight a technological oppression is with a technological solution.

Wondering, what would be the weakest link that the CCP could target for censorship purposes? Block people from connecting to as many relays as possible? That would probably work to cut off from the outside world. Local relays between local people on the other hand are much harder for them to control I imagine...
