I suspect that what you dislike is the lack of authenticity.

I tend to disregard people's judgements (positive & negative). The world is neither friendly nor hostile but you can meet people who will exhibit either stance. Often how they treat you is a reflection of how you treat yourself. Sometimes the stance they project is a posture or facade they've adopted.

This facade can be friendly/positive or grumpy/hostile. Either way it's just a facade to hide their authentic expression. To protect them from feeling hurt.

Asking uncomfortable questions is not passing judgement. The only judgement you should make is deciding what you prefer. People shouldn't take it personally when someone prefers something else. You also don't need to tell them their baby is ugly.
