A quick note about Lightning tipping addresses:

❌ 1x… bitcoin legacy address (on-chain)

❌ 3x… bitcoin P2SH address (on-chain)

❌ bc1… bitcoin Bech32 address (on-chain)

❌ lnbc… Lightning invoice (single-use)

✅ LNURL… Lightning Network URL (reusable)

✅ alias@domain… Lightning Address (reusable)

Not all wallets have the same features. Make sure you know the difference so you can receive tips without headaches.

Happy tipping! ⚡️🤙

Easiest way I have found to generate a LNURL is using BTCPay Server.

#bitcoin #lightning #nostr

You found that easy?

Lol, it was just an app on #umbrel

Only took a few clicks to set up.

I haven't tested it though, maybe the config is wrong

nvm, I didnt click save

Know your bitcoin and Lightning address types!

I wrote this note before zapping was in full swing — it needs an update now to change “tipping” to “zapping”!

bc1p... - P2TR, taproot, (on-chain)

Thanks. 🤔 Do you think that’s necessary to include that since I already cover bc1 types? How would you rewrite it to keep it on one line?

idk, it's a different (newer) address format, so could be included for completeness. but probably your focus is LN addresses, so on-chain is not that important.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few people try and stick an on-chain address in their profile zaps. Maybe I’ll try to include it parenthetically. Most mistakes are people generating an invoice and not understanding they need an LNURL and either don’t know how to find it or their wallet doesn’t support it.

Would it make sense to say:

❌ bc1… bitcoin Bech32/P2TR address (on-chain)

that works as a negative filter, sure!
