What it really means is that the other person ascribes exactly zero value to my family, life, & dog. So honestly it seems fair to treat with with the same respect. Thus, shooting them is perfectly just.

Do I value dogs more than people? No.

Do I trust someone who has just stolen my dog to remain mobile around my family? Also no.
