My understanding is Bitchat doesn't use wifi or cell towers: works only via bluetooth from phone to phone. The problem is - if you can find someone using it within bluetooth range. Would have to scale in a BIG WAY for this to be usable.
Any protest where the government cuts internet access.
Any large music festival where the phone network can't handle the extra people.
Messaging your neighbours without wasting money on phone credit.
Neighbourhood watch/emergency services etc.
I can think of a lot of other uses for it.
Or at large protests.
Cell networks get overwhelmed and communication becomes impossible… either that or they shut the signal off on us 🤷♂️
