Why would the British Government send you to prison

Because not only is he one of the Government, but because he is a high-ranking official or has extremely disgusting amounts of pull in their government while having done something nefarious.

Those would be my guesses.

It has to do with the "lifetime anonymity order" which I guess is a thing UK judges are allowed to do. The original justification for the order was based on the perpetrators of the crime both being minors.
