As bitcoin gets bigger more entities will probably try to manipulate bitcoin development trough social media the same way we see it in voting/politics.
(e.g. push against privacy improvements like CISA and for compliance tech like UMA)
Does Nostr fix this?
I'm afraid nostr can go both way in this. We assume there are spooks that get pumped to be influencers but on nostr, personhood isn't even a limiting factor. Here, 10 spooks with LLMs could spawn a million influencers and just drown us all with "useful" opinions. I don't know how to protect against that.
On the other side we have no algorithms here that could be used to suppress one opinion and push "the correct opinion" like on the big plattforms
No but once you follow 5 spook accounts that then are posting strategically and more effectively than the next 500, you get a ton of influence. It's more democratic and you can unfollow but how do I know why people say what they say?
I still feel like following 5 spooks here would be less manipulating than following 5 on X that have the support of the X algorithm (same agenda or paid for). Here you could still see opposing views if you follow them, on X it's possible they don't even show up on your timeline anymore and get shadowbanned. But blind following will lead to being captured on both, yes
Nostr does not fix this.
Weve seen devs for years get upset about the lack of social consensus on the devlist take their fight to twitter to rile up mob support from people who have zero ability or incentive to grok the implications of some new idea.
And like Twitter, Nostr already has its influencers using the mob to enforce their narratives.
What fixes this is learning how to think and not accepting something an influencer says as gospel.
This will be one use case for web of trust.
I want my community to help me identify the people who are most trustworthy to answer questions that are important to me, but too narrowly focused for me to answer all by myself.
