Estas son las razones por las que el dev de la wallet SBW dejará de dar soporte a Lightning⚡

Interesante la segunda donde dice que "no ha despegado" y que es un "desajuste técnico del mercado"

Or maybe they just built a shitty wallet that nobody uses.

Why shitty?

I can tell from the Play Store screenshot that it sucks.

It has functionalities no othe wallet had, like rotating node id or hosted channels. And all its implementation was privacy focused.

But that UI is just for power users.

Too messy for the plebs.

Compare it with Phoenix, for example.

Too much simpler UI.

Agree on the UI UX, but power users also need tools. SBW was a great wallet ending 2021

Never heard of it.

SBW for power users??

I'm all in to simplify the UI to offert a better UX, when possibile. But we cannot have one-button tools everywhere.

Users need to explore, learn, and study (read) a bit if they want to grow themselves as self-sovereign humans.

Some users will indeed explore and learn.

But we can't expect all of them to learn what "depth 2 of 3" means.

We must do better in order to allow the maximum number of users to become self-sovereign.

When you meet and have to know the "depth 2 of 3" concept in SBW/OBW?

Clients will improve in parallel with the adoption, it is a natural law about tools and tech.

But to use hard money people need to take some responsabilities and learn a little, the minimum is how to keep 12 words safe. LN has more complexity, need more UI/UX work and maybe technical solutions for a smooth non custodial use. But today I don't see other exceptional examples around that can be preferable (waiting for Zeus full node! Blixt is great but a bit technical and UX can be improved). Let's see the new Phoenix with this splitting (now the fee are absurd, imho).

User experience is very important and should be considered from the inception of a product. Saying that you are building a product for power-users but calling it “Simple BTC Wallet” is a bad start. There is nothing simple about this interface. Even if it had a few great features, they were lost in the clunky interface. Lightning adoption wasn’t the issue here.

Maybe are you replying to the wrong person/note?

Btw, I don't think SBW ever presented itself as "power user wallet".

I agree this is not the best interface for many details and of course was not curated by a designer (OBW is much better in this respect, at least on the colors palette), but call it "shitty" without even try it is a bit hasty, isn't? :) Download OBW, open an hosted channel for few sats and play with it. Maybe you can change your mind.

Which do you think is a great self-custody LN client? And why?

So far I’ve tried Breez, Muun, Phoenix, Blixt, and Mutiny. I’m a pretty big fan of Phoenix and Mutiny has a lot to offer, and I’m sure it will get better. I’m really pumped for what nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 just announced.

Phoenix is doing a great effort in building a simple UX, indeed.

All Lightning wallets that open channels to users should have a better onboarding flow to explain liquidity and channel open fees.

100%

The new Phoenix has done an excellent job on this, seeing the screenshots (I haven't tried the beta).

One of the suggestions I made to OBW some time ago is precisely to offer a wizard at startup for channel management. Hosted channels are so interesting that they deserve more visibility (and a adequate explanation regarding the custodial part).

May I suggest you to try it before express a final opinion?

Maybe the OBW fork https://github.com/nbd-wtf/obw

Talking about OBW: currently, some users have problems with failed payments, and we all hope to see a boost in the development. But I can assure you that the UI is not a problem at all; indeed, it is really nice and offer a great UX.

They are a *full nodes*, no need to connect externally with anything to do self-custody.

They have hosted channels, that are great to onboard new users with zero inbound liquidity and then teach them to move full custodial without switching app.

Finally they are a classic Bitcoin walllet, with coin control too.

All this, open source.

What else? :)
