Maria, how long can they sit like that before the roots tangle hopelessly? I’ve always shied away from letting them bunch.

I cant remember exactly how long ago I put the potatoes halfway in soil, to start the slips. But on the slips I have harvested, they have all survived when I transplanted to pots. I think I started them very early spring, maybe March?
But if you mean the slips in this pic, these are the ones I'll be selling, so whoever buys them can just separate them. I just put these in the pots yesterday, and not meant for leaving them in the small pots.
Ah makes sense. I just bought mine bare, and it was kinda sketchy. It would be much more presentable to send them home like that. I plan to make my own this year, from my window sill potato. Then, next year probably sell.
