Just potted up some sweet potato slips that I started a while back. Have more than I need, so i posted them for sale on local Telegram groups. Already have a couple folks interested. Also potted up some turks cap starts and Mexican plum starts. #grownostr #permaculture #homesteading

I'd love to try planting sweet potato this year. But it would have to work in a container.

I've put some in containers before, just placed a section of wire in there for them to climb. But it works.

Good to know. I might try a couple then.

They also work famously in straw bales.

Ok. Don't have those but good to know. I'm working on a backyard garden. So everything has to be small scale. Hence the container.

Ooooh! Fun, go for it! I love seeing what people can cram into a tiny space. I assumed soil quality. I’m in terribly clay, and harvest would be nearly impossible.

In that case, look up how people do it in $1.25 Tree laundry hampers or in sacks, grow bags, whatever your area calls them.

Sweet potatoes are on my list of things to grow for next year. They're looking good!

Maria, how long can they sit like that before the roots tangle hopelessly? I’ve always shied away from letting them bunch.

I cant remember exactly how long ago I put the potatoes halfway in soil, to start the slips. But on the slips I have harvested, they have all survived when I transplanted to pots. I think I started them very early spring, maybe March?

But if you mean the slips in this pic, these are the ones I'll be selling, so whoever buys them can just separate them. I just put these in the pots yesterday, and not meant for leaving them in the small pots.

Ah makes sense. I just bought mine bare, and it was kinda sketchy. It would be much more presentable to send them home like that. I plan to make my own this year, from my window sill potato. Then, next year probably sell.
