Replying to Avatar Bourbonic Plague

I see ChatGPT as a 10x Google. It understands context much better than Google (or other search engines) and can give you pointers to that context that would take you much longer to find digging through search engine results. Especially in the SEO spammed world we currently live in.

But the writing ChatGPT produces is pretty pathetic and easy to spot in my experience. In its current state it feels like an excellent research assistant, but I’d never trust or use its output directly for anything I care about.

Have you tried using it for anything that you already have a ton of domain specific knowledge about? I’ve found it to be very authoritative while very misguided, which is quite a dangerous combination.

Yeah, it’s a bullshit artist. Don’t trust, verify.

It’s still very handy to get pointers to the things you are asking about so you can do your own research. And for subjects you already know, it’s a great way to check your memory or get details you are familiar with but don’t have committed to memory.
