I see ChatGPT as a 10x Google. It understands context much better than Google (or other search engines) and can give you pointers to that context that would take you much longer to find digging through search engine results. Especially in the SEO spammed world we currently live in.

But the writing ChatGPT produces is pretty pathetic and easy to spot in my experience. In its current state it feels like an excellent research assistant, but I’d never trust or use its output directly for anything I care about.

It alsointegrates with preexisting products much easier. Quora is piloting an OpenAI powered assistant in their search results for example. Entities with a ton of gated content like Quora would be able to negotiate an access for access scheme to reduce their costs for API access to near zero most likely.

Oh and also, I'm just waiting for more domain specific models. BloombergGPT is a good example, but there will be many many more as time passes and more people see the returns.

Yeah, I can see how it would be useful to integrate an LLM with something like Zendesk to help customer support people get answers about how to help customers, as one example.

Some people talk about replacing customer service people with AI directly, but that is not something I would do. But using it to augment junior support folks with the wisdom of senior tech support folks could be a huge win.

But lots of internal AI functions will be complicated to use with a hosted AI service like ChatGPT. Having a model you can run on your own hardware/network will be important for most companies.

You're absolutely right about that, but they're going to maintain a walled garden for as long as possible.

Definitely.

This is a great example of one.

What way do interface with the chatGPT and how much does it cost?

I’ve just used the default OpenAI web interface. I pay the $20/month for the ChatGPT Plus.

I haven’t looked into using the API yet but I believe it uses a token system to charge for what you use.

Have you tried using it for anything that you already have a ton of domain specific knowledge about? I’ve found it to be very authoritative while very misguided, which is quite a dangerous combination.

Yeah, it’s a bullshit artist. Don’t trust, verify.

It’s still very handy to get pointers to the things you are asking about so you can do your own research. And for subjects you already know, it’s a great way to check your memory or get details you are familiar with but don’t have committed to memory.
