Something I was thinking about yesterday: the function of the Republican Party is to prevent civil war.

I'll explain.

Over the past 25 years the major shifts in policy and law that could have caused gun owners to consider using the 2nd amendment for a direct redress of grievances have happened under Republican presidents.

The surveillance authorized by the PATRIOT Act may have been met with armed resistance if Obama had attempted to instate it, but with Bush as the spearhead Republicans remained orderly.

The bank bailouts of 2008 could have been similarly opposed, but though Obama continued them, Bush started them.

Could Obama or Biden have locked down the country during Covid without any organized and armed pushback? Absolutely not. But because Trump was president, the "patriots" bent over and took it. By the time a Democrat took office and extended those policies the frog had already been boiled and it would have been silly to start fighting at that point.

If a Democrat is in office following 2024, we'll get 4 more years of slow, ratcheting loss of liberty.

Next time they put a Republican in the White House, watch out! The purpose will be to ramp up the assault on our freedoms, secure in the knowledge that those with guns won't fight back against someone they wanted in office.
