At one point it was the Reddit app, when they offered custom feeds.

Any chance you can find a screenshot of that?

I can't, it's been roughly 8 years or so and the app has been doing somersaults the entire time. 3 years ago they slaughtered third-party apps. The landscape has always been shifting.

Nonetheless it wasn't particularly complex. I believe Boost for Lemmy is still essentially following the same trend. I will be basing the majority of my mobile UI on Boost for Lemmy.

Home, search, communities, inbox, profile.

Nonetheless an older version of Reddit allowed you to manage custom feeds in this panel, so you could group subreddits and then explore them from the main page instead of 'global' or whatever. Just like amethyst has at the top of the feed page

Very interesting

What made that specific version of the Reddit app best overall is that it flowed back into your home screen. I've tried to make a diagram to explain this for you.

Your home screen then became a rotating dispensary of aggregated community-driven content, which is ideal. The user became the algorithm with no need for all of the excess.

This of course was already powered by reddits algos but those are what will be replaced by sovereign algos.

This is of course from memory so I may have a bit of fuzziness but this was the general mechanism.

not sure if you were aware but nostr:npub1l5sga6xg72phsz5422ykujprejwud075ggrr3z2hwyrfgr7eylqstegx9z and nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h have been talking about this and nostr:npub1syjmjy0dp62dhccq3g97fr87tngvpvzey08llyt6ul58m2zqpzps9wf6wl 's #jumble client would enable this to be done as curated relays (which could be clusters, behind the scenes, for high availability).

i'm finding uses for it also with a relay subscription interface i'm in the process of building.

it heavily depends on the app and what it’s supposed to do for me, but in my opinion, the navigation bar of Apple Music on the iPhone is well designed. 💪

Brave and Vanadium have both bottom navigation bar
