I paid $230k for my house in 2007.
Council rates have it @ $550k now.

If house 🏠 prices are to double every 14 years in this state (and even faster elsewhere) may God have mercy on our souls and the souls of our children.

I recently had a family member lose a property that had been in the family for some time as they were retired and unable to pay the combination of rates and land tax.
Unable to meet the tax burden they were forced to sell only to be hit with a massive CGT bill.
It is absolutely criminal.
