ProtonMail has launched it's Bitcoin wallet! Keen to see how their user base adopts it
Discussion
I downloaded it. It's OK. Definitely an end-user product, and not intended for the Bitcoin power user.
How does the send via email work? Does it just generate a public key on the fly when you pick an email address?
I haven't tried that yet, so I'm not really sure how it works. I'm suspicious of things like that, and view them as gimmicks that will never be anything more than a gimmick. Maybe I'll try it, but I'm pretty wary of it.
Understood, I was just interested in the UI/UX really, always keen to see people trying new things with Bitcoin
Nice. Might have to dig out my old proton address and see what it's like.
Drop a report back if you do, I'm too lazy to setup a new wallet
I'd think twice before using Proton software. They froze my account about a year ago for no apparent reason. The account did get re-enable after a lot of back and forth.
Anyway bottom line. Avoid any centralized service or software that has ability to lock you out.
Indeed a risk worth considering but isn't this a non-custodial wallet so even if they ban you, you could restore your keys using some other software?
If wallet is non-custodial, then one should be fine. But I bet most will get sucked into using their other software. Why not just go with Sparrow wallet?
