Millions of years in the future, once Humanity managed to extinguish itself through wars or the destruction of the environment, some animal managed to evolve like we did and move as far as acquiring time travelling capabilites. Maybe the tech is not fine tuned yet and that's why they keep trashing their ships. But why the obsession with travelling to now? (Please note I don't believe any of this)
