Backward compatibility in clients is critical, even if temporary to allow others to catch up. We learned from bitcoin how to propose new ideas and reach consensus. Maybe we’ve forgotten that here because everyone is so excited to build, build, build.

We also need to allow time for users to explore, engage, and adapt.

I am inclined to agree, its frustrating to see my client (amethyst) simply not be configured to accept notes in a format that other clients push.

That said, this kind of competition is probably pushing the developers harder than anything. In the long term it would be nice to see clients that don't require constant updates, right now this might be the best thing for us.
