Uplift are great. I have a Updesk as well but its not nearly as nice and its more expensive.
Get one with the beveled edge.

Are uplifts particle board?
The base models that they call laminate are. The laminate coating is pretty durable. Its been my primary desk for ~6 years and survived 4 house moves. Until this last move it was fine but I dropped it on the corner.
You can also get several types of solid wood as well as bamboo.
