Today I'm walking around my property and labeling interesting plants that I identify with the Seek app.

So far I've found:

58 species of plants

5 species of insects

3 reptiles

2 arachnids

And 1 fungus

I need to come up with a more permanent labeling system, but for now masking tape and a sharpie will do.

I've started to do this as well. It has been interesting identifying "weeds".

I really need to spend some time doing this. Since I'm slowly working on converting a wooded area to silvopasture I need to identify what to keep and what to get rid of.

With the Seek app you can copy the Latin name. Then I like to use the Plants for a Future (PFAF) database to learn about what I've found.

The PFAF site is pretty awesome.

I've been trying to find a decent plant identification app for ages, the main problem being they either want a ridiculous amount of money as a monthly subscription or they're no good in the southern hemisphere.

I see from the app description that it is "a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society"

So hopefully it is not totally profit oriented. I will give it a try. Thanks!

That’s a really good idea.

Have you used the PictureThis app?

I have, it's probably better than Seek at identifying things.

I use Seek because it's completely free and no account needed

I will have to check out Seek.

How do you get the animals to stay still for that? #grownostr

Great idea! I'm going to have to start doing that.
