every time one of these not-so-secretly-racist "rising star" conservatives is unmasked as *extra* racist I do a quick check and YEP they've been published by The New York Times

Institutions like the New York Times have an intense desire to be seen as neutral and rational in the eyes of people who at this point have no respect for them-- and this desire is so important that any harm that might come from legitimizing people who have eliminationist ideas just isn't as important.
It's a kind of affirmative action for conservative ideas only practiced by centrist liberals.
Can you imagine centrist conservatives ever even having such a concern?
