4 yo: I'm going to cut thistle with my scissors
Wife: they might be pokey, be careful
4 yo: No. They aren't so pokey on the bottom.
The kid has recognized this on his own. I'm a proud papa.

BRO! WHAT THE HECK IS THE DEAL WITH 4YOs AND GOING OUTSIDE TO CUT PLANTS WITH "THEIR" (MINE he stole them) SCISSORS?!?!?!
I dont actually care except he's dulled at least two pairs trying to cut hackberry branches.
I'm down a pair of fiskars hand pruners (fortunately it was my backup pair with the spring missing) and my loppers and shears are dulled.
But.
It's really great to watch my boys figuring out the kinesthetics of cutting things. The 4yo will get the lopper jaws onto a branch/trunk, brace one handle against his hips and use both arms to pull the other handle in to make the cut.
