I see that nostr:nprofile1qqsq9k04vahllseell55m74n3047y88pzlr0z5yany32st29fapqmgspz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtca833ap found it's first block overnight. WOOT! I also see that I didn't get any rewards for it. I am confused...

Are you using them to mine?

Yes. Well, apparently I'm just heating my house 😂

Well it’s getting cold out there.

Ya… I was worried about that. The 1 million sat min exchange is what made me leave. I’ll be waiting a long time with my underclocked S9 space heater

the 1 million sats withdrawal threshold his pretty standard. braiins is similar to that. 1 million for free withdrawal or pay 10K sats for anything below that, i believe.

Makes sense. I was also concerned about the news about censoring ordinals and not giving us the ability not to censor them. What are your thoughts there?

my initial reaction is fuck ordinals. my second reaction is fuck ordinals.

What’s your third?

Think there is a threshold in place before you can get rewarded.

rewards are supposed to accumulate until you reach the threshold. i would assume they would show here until you reach that threshold.

Hmm… 🤔

the marketing was pretty great though, eh?

now if we can get like 6 more Oceans, preferably running Sv2 off the bat and FOSS, that would be great.

do any mining pools have their software stack available as FOSS?

Stratum v2 Reference implementation is getting there, but I don't know of any others. and that's a problem imho. I recognized this a while back when I started looking into sv2 and wanted to run a pool for myself. limited FOSS out there for it. almost no docs or guides. so I was excited to hear about Ocean and watched the whole stream. but then no code and felt rugged. now am highly skeptical since there was littel technical explanation as to how this thing would work. they advertised "transparency" but lots of things have yet to be revealed. they advertised "decentralization" but only one entity can run the code. they advertised "pleb mining" but you still have to have a certain amount of hash to make it reasonable. just seemed like marketing in bad faith or obscurity. everything is good for bitcoin but this was a huge disappointment. and the people running it I admire from a technical standpoint so my let down is further soured. but we must all slay our heroes.

want to build a FOSS pool guide/stack using Sv2? OpenSats would probably like that.

We need a nostr pleb pool

I thought about trying to build a pool a year or so ago, just because I wanted to learn. I found all of the FOSS tools and guides to do it.

where?

I've understood there's a threshold to get reward on-chain and it'll implement a Lightning on small rewards.. maybe they can hold and settle in different way littles rewards meanwhile

It’s a error on their payout address, after the 100block phase the rewards will be added

well, i don't think it's an error, it's just how their dashboard is designed. for example, even the miner that found this block shows zero rewards.

They're working on it / aware the website isn't showing things quite right.

it's all fixed now :)

There should be no minimum distribution amount threshold. We’re not there yet.

Then the Bitcoin fees become prohibitive for tiny payouts. Or are you thinking of Lightnight payouts instead of Bitcoin? That is still effectively custodial.

Hm, that’s fair. Payouts could be batched into 1 transaction which would effectively to open lightning channels, then the distributions of those payments could be done over lightning.

Thanks 🫂🫂🫂

Payout should be great with so few participants right now!

Weird they haven’t announced it here on nostr yet though?

For every block that’s found, several gallons of water is used. That’s enough to fill up more than a hundred coffeemakers, according to a recent study.

Then I guess we should all have a cup of coffee to celebrate.

So what's that mean the generation tx wasn't correct?...

Follow-up

Moar

I was thinking to maybe give it a try, but the info is not clear, was quite dissapointed with payout system, like any other pool they custody your mined Bitcoin till You reach their threshold, let's see if they make it to phase 2 and how it's implemented

Yeah, not loving that my pending rewards aren't showing up like on Braiins.

it's a bug. they're working on fixing it.

Saw that. That's good news.

People are paying a lot of attention to what you've written.

Added to the https://nostraco.in/hot feed

So the ocean mining pool was a lie ?

Hope they post an apology and done some coin distribution for the lie.

And the next project is on the way. Will you believe them again ?

It was a bug and it's already been corrected.

They will continue to lie.

nostr:note1x7d7vkzffhf7red3qmkhjx3c0ym76l0aasqwqlx560funzlf83ksg6taw3 Congratulations to OCEAN on mining their first block. A lot of people didn't read the bit about payout thresholds but this is great progress for OCEAN, looking forward to joining
