This is a different path for each of us. It may be a different language, a different approach or a different teacher.

Don't give up yet!

It might be good to swim in the shallow end for a while. Seek out as many beginner projects as you can find. Different tasks will call for different ways of using code.

As your experience increases, you will be able to absorb the intermediate aspects easier, and may have some practical uses for them from your previous projects. As the shallow waters lose all sense of challenge and adventure, the deep end becomes easier to go into.
