Had an argument with a gold bug.

He asked: When society collapses, what will I buy food with? Insisting nobody will want my bitcoin then…

He made a good point.

And although I disagree, definitely got me thinking I need more .556 and 7.62 ammo.

If society collapses, your soft skills, knowledge and tactile skills/talents will be what gets you food.

You better have something to offer the horde that shows up to your doorstep. If you don't think they won't have guns and ammo and outnumber you, you're kidding yourself.

I tend to believe the whole society collapsing idea is pretty far fetched. If you want to prep for disaster, have at it. But thinking society will completely degree on a dime like that just isn't a productive use of your time and mental energy.

what would happen if there was another period like the Younger Dryas in our future, do you think civilization will continue when there's no place to raise cattle or grow corn? All cold and damp and stormy and people dying of colds

there was even a major period like this around 600AD in northwestern europe, a runestone was found with a record of these events, suspected to be associated with some heavy volcanic activity

that was only 1400 years ago and the Dryas was about 10000 years ago

too cold and damp and humans are driven back to hunting and nomadic life and populations collapse because there is no way to feed the number of people required for a market civilization

unless we somehow break out of this toxic cycle with governments and slavery when the weather turns bad again it's gonna be more of the same

humans are stupid and short sighted creatures, high civilization is rare and usually requires warm weather, at minimum
