We will never learn the importance of scalability and self custody as a collective til Wallet of Satoshi rugs us all.

We need stop shilling custodial services as scalability solutions.

I fully support WoS rugging us asap so we learn our lesson now rather than later.

What makes you think WoS rugging people will cause them to learn?

So many people I know and see on social media are now first introduced to bitcoin via wallet of satoshi or similar user friendly custodial ln wallet.

The problem with custodial wallets is that it requires trust. Something like 90% of lightning users are using Wallet of satoshi.

The state could easy shutdown WoS overnight or take it down from the app stores or rug users. Users are very vulnerable to theft as result.

Yeah.. and they'll switch to another custodial solution if they do get rugged because setting up a non-custodial lightning node is difficult.

Hence we need be more open to alternative layer 2 proposals like drivechain.

Ew.... how about blockstrems greenlight project they announced today for a simple noncustodial lightning solution.

BiP300 is garbage and that's why it hasn't been implemented since it was proposed 6 years ago.

Nah

I simply don’t have anything sizeable in WoS and for that matter have never backed it up.

We need to stop these excuses. People are onboarding newbies to these apps and someone is going to get rekted eventually.

Ee should be open to layer 2 options that are userfriendly, scalable and self-custody by default.

So the lightning node is on the smartphone? šŸ¤”

I am talking rollups, drivechain and/or this new bitVM thing maybe.

Lightning is not user friendly and requires trusting third parties, (custodial wallets, and liquidity service providers). Maybe one day it will be but I am skeptical.

Oof, this is not etherium. Let's practice caution and conservatism, before we break something.

Thats exactly what’s these solutions offer. Keep mainchain untouched, conservative, secure and decentralised.

Scale on layer 2s on sidechains or rollups that come with less security but more functionailiies and scalability.

If main chain is not affected by drivechains, it would already have been implemented. Drivechains require a soft fork.

Yep for drivechain to work an opcode is required. Opcode just counts to 13000 blocks to execute sidechain withdrawals.

Because you can peg out from mainchain. The difficult part is securely and trustlessly pegging back into mainchain. This is why the soft fork is needed.

So the main chain is touched. We should be very wary of doing that.

For lightning network to be work, taproot and segwit soft forks were both required which are technically more complex than drivechain opcode.

Lightning was made possible through SegWit, not Taproot.

Taproot only came much later and had unexpected consequences already with the Ordinals spam.

Don't try to have your merge and splurge and purge on Bitcoin. We don't want that and we don't need that. Main chain needs to ossify, any changes to the base layer should be vetted thoroughly and for a very long time. Drivechains won't happen imo.

I swear I read somewhere Taproot was required for BOLTZ 12. But maybe I am wrong on that.

Schnor sigs (bundled with taproot) are required for PTLCs and taproot can make cooperative closes more private. But lightning was working with Segwit, taproot just makes it better

Just seeing this thread again and I feel educated.

Thank you for this discourse. 🄹

Agreed nostr:npub1ykgzq83frx525etgezysqxf25480qrnvp962tvzr9afxzj5yrmyqp3mpsh is a good resource to have in the comment section

Following all you psychos šŸ«‚

Easy there dude, I have $14.00 in my WOS!

That’s my tipping stash, no way I want to lose that!

That’s someone’s life savings in a part of the world

You monster 😁

We only learn through trials and tribulations.

I also thought of that when I set mine up. And I couldn’t figure out the other options and how to link those to Nostr (not being a great technical person I have no idea) so I did the next thing. Keep the least in there šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø or over complicate it and zap from a different wallet.

You done nothing wrong.

The issue is we humans like convenience.

I think the best thing for bitcoin would for wos app to steal our money. Then people will be outraged enough to do something about. Like build user friendly scaling solutions.

I do agree! Spent quite a bit of time trying out the non-custodial options but couldn’t get them to link up to my profile.

I got into bitcoin because I hated the current financial system. With all the middle men and trust involved.

Let’s build a trustless p2p bitcoin world not a kyc centralised custodial bitcoin world

And the fact that what’s in the bank isn’t your money - the bank owns it.
