Do you think one source of the Libertarian problem is that their ideology is based around acceptance of other idealogies and a strong will to not impose their own way of life on others, and because of this they have a hard time competing in the political space?

Yes Libertarians are neurotic around hashing out the minutia of their philosophy. I wish they could even agree to disagree, but mostly they just form ideological factions and snipe at each other for not being the true Libertarians. So they get nothing done.
The expression "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic" comes to mind.
