Every time I save an image on an iPhone, it seems hard to find. When I try to upload an image, the only option seems to be from images not downloads. It’s been a frustrating UX for years. Anyone else experience this?

Photo management in the Apple ecosystem is a historic weak spot. It’s consistently awful.

I feel like an idiot every time I go through that process. I mostly just want to download images to do reverse searches. Wish I could just long tap to do a reverse search.

I’d be pretty happy to just be able to find things. A bonus for being able to determine my own structure. 🙄

The solution to this problem is Android 😬

Is it the lesser of 2 evils? I’m not a fan of android having used it for a long time. My life has been much easier on iOS

I have the 180 opposite experience, can't stand using iOS, makes me feel like an idiot.

I do prefer android as a phone but there are similar UI issues there.

Sharing a photo doesn't always show the latest downloaded/shared photo.

Sometimes it went to a folder that the file explorer isn't presenting as an option. My favourite is when the photo is deep deep down in a folder because the creation date was years ago... Even though you just downloaded it it will not be visible.

And how about creating a copy of a photo when using the Photos app? It doesn't appear next to the original but is hidden deep down with the date of the original photo.

Still love android... The openness and the development freedom on it!

See how they manage the pics attachment in an email, using the icons row above the keyboard, it is a UI/UX joke. A lot of iphone users every time they had to send a photo they start from the gallery and share it, and this is tragic when you have to *reply* to an ongoing conversation.

Yeah a lot of iOS UX is terrible. I don’t know why they don’t fix it 🤷‍♂️

We all miss Steve Jobs, even the people who knew him well.

I'm with you. Years of pain.

The real problem though is that Android is shit.

So when you long press on a photo to save it you onto the phone you use the “save to photos” option?

I am just trying to understand how it’s getting into the downloads folder?

It's not in your photos app library section when you save it?

No goes to some download folder

Ah you must be tapping "save to files". If you hold down on the photo and tap "save to photos" it should just go to your photos library.

Hmm I see that option in browser but i guess not in Damus

🤔 just saved your flower pic from damus it goes to photos here

i see this options in damus and save image goes directly to photos 🤔

It’s worth noting that you have to tap the image to open it full screen first, then press and hold the image, to get this menu.

Hmm mine doesn’t go to photos. Maybe I changed my default path somehow

Worth trying the search function, sometimes you are lucky

I do. Apple’s file management is worse. Yet they do everything else so seamless, so I sometimes wonder if they do it on purpose.

For example making it hard to download videos or music makes you pay for their premium streamed content or buying music directly from their store.

But since I need this said feature like 2-3 times a year, I am still able to bear it.

Yeah good point. It could very well be intentional ignorance 🤔

that seems to be Apple's motto

Use Android and take control of your filesystem.
