I take walks around a lake. The people there that aren’t walking are mostly homeless. I can’t talk to them all but I talk to some. I want to help them all but I can’t. Most just want something to eat. How do we find out which ones just need a few hundred dollars to take a fuckin bath, put on some new clothes, and get back to providing value and living a good life. It breaks my heart. Some are lost in our system. But I know some just need a couple days relief to get back on track. I have no idea what the solution is but I’m haunted because i know there is a solution.

U sound like good peepl #john

…I’m not sure what the answer to that problem is either but I have found that helping individuals directly (charity with compassion) feels a lot better than outsourcing charitable donations thru centralized entities (charity with little to no compassion…imho).

Maybe try it with some of the folks u cross paths with that move ur heart to do so. Some will use the donations/help in ways that will disappoint u but u may make a real difference in someone’s life. At the very least they will all know that for a brief moment a kind soul cared about them.

…and isn’t that what charity should be…leaving the world a lil better than u found it. 🤷🏽‍♂️🌅

I appreciate it. I’m 100% committed to doing my part—a sandwich here and there— but there is a network effect aspect to the problem that needs more than just us individually. And I don’t see it yet. But I’m so very open to exploring.

I feel you. I echoed what nostr:nprofile1qqsg4fjzufhx2pep88ssmdvkg65f4f6n3fvevk4t8mvfrywhr9nadscpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcav5822 mentioned on your post. Directly helping people is much better. What I find is helping them how to get back on their knees and give them the tools they need to be more independent are much better than directly giving them money. However, taking this all on your own can be labour intensive and time consuming unless you have unlimited resources. It is a struggle to balance to outsource it to charities vs your own. I still hope that there are decent one out there but you have to look hard enough and research them. Other option for you is to start your own foundation or trust if you have the resources. Regardless of your choice, the intention is there and even if it means helping one soul, that is more than enough. Take it easy! 🙏☺️

Thank you. I appreciate that thoughtful response.

no worries at all. Always my pleasure to help out people who have the kindest intention with as little as I can. All the best and once you find your answer, would be amazing to hear your stories here. ☺️🙏
