We'll see. I tend to think you don't become the leader of a private army by being a crazed madman. I tend to believe that he's just been paid off by the US and is acting in a perfectly rational way. Putin out of the picture is good news for Russia and for the world, no nuance required.

Yes Wagner is a pawn moved by the US. But we've seen this before. America removes one bad leader with one worst. Wagner will be a dictator.
If Wagner succeeds then the Russian ppl are screwed.
If Wagner fails then America just opened the door for Putin to retaliate. Which means eventually the American ppl will be screwed.
Either way it's the ppl who are screwed.

As a European, especially one who aspires to see a fully European Russia some day, I am perfectly aware that there is a war in Europe.
I'm also perfectly aware that we will continue to have wars in Europe for as long as undesirable autocratic murderers like Putin remain in power.
It takes sweat and blood to get rid of them, and it can never be pretty. But it has to be done, sooner or later.
All Russians I've met, including "normal" people on the street, in shops, hotels, restaurants, whenever I have been to Russia (basically Moscow and St Petersburg, granted) are extremely well educated and well read, super polite, calm and friendly.
They just have this fatal resignation to them, as far as the never ending succession of criminal murderers that seem to find their way to power all the time. Putin is a curse. Let's get rid of them, and then we can deal with the next one.
