I set my global feed to content with media just to chill and not read as much.

But recently I just noticed how much racist content we have in global. So much that it’s annoying to even mute it all. Easier to just not look.

I wonder what kind of impression other people have if all they look at is global notes.

Content based relays could help, but then again managing relays is a whole other chore…

I’m assuming the average person would get overwhelmed and disgusted.

I view global only through the nostr.wine filter relay. Much better experience.

I have that too but wanted to try nostr.band image filter one

I think most of that comes from mastodon bridge

What sort of racism? Against who ? On Iris it’s web of trust + how many social stages you want so global feed is also curated to your likings - it’s been pretty neat

Everything imaginable. They all seem to have anime pfps. Almost like they are bots 🤔

Sadly, muting racist slurs does not make them disappear

Racism I think it is something inside every human either to stop this matter but sometimes it may appear no matter how much we try to hide it

I dont look at global for that reason.

Tricky because if people don't have many people to follow, they will eventually reach global to see who else they might like to follow. Would sour people's experience that were just onboarded to nostr.

Shouldn’t be an issue if you combine with topics / hashtags to follow.

Is this already a feature in nostr or maybe client dependent? Development happens so quickly I can't keep up!

Client-specific. You can follow hashtags already on some clients. Just a matter of adding that into onboarding and surfacing most popular hashtags.

I just checked Amethyst's global and haven't seen that much offensive material on a quick scroll. I haven't gone nuts on adding new relays, do you think that could be the reason?

Maybe it’s more once you filter by images? The things I saw were all images and memes

When I started #nostr I came across that directly in the face in the global feed now I only have an active welcome relay. The question is how many new people who get here the first and only thing they see is that type of content. It doesn’t seem like a cozy place where they would like to be.

I didn't thought of that, but this is a really good point.

The early development situation in which the protocol is allows many opportunities for improvement. Before the big boom

I'd rather have my feed unfiltered, even if it's disgusting. It's better to keep an eye on those who don't behave well. On the other hand, I was initially a bit overwhelmed with the flood of information, so I decided to listen to only a few relays.

And that’s fine. You should be able to.
