Yes
Music has basically sucked for 15-20 years.
You need to start listening to zap.stream/noderunnersradio
I did for a while but it was boring. No good channel much better
We tested zaps on this note⦠we made six attempts toā”zap this note, at artdesignbysf@noderunners.org, over a period of 28 minutes. In each case, we found that your lightning address server did not respond correctly. (The failure point was when we did a GET request to your specified callback URL: https://noderunners.org/.well-known/lnurlp/artdesignbysf ). Your server did not produce an invoice, thus the zap failed. If you wanted to fix this... you could try a free rizful account -- https://rizful.com ... if u set it up, pls reply here so we can do this ā”zap test again.
Itās not you. Itās just bad.
Yes. And yes. And I am also yes.
most of it is to do with the tiktok and reels culture
artists make songs that could pop off on those platforms especially, that turns into a marketing spiral etc
so as long as the 20-30 seconds in the second are catchy for the brainrot tiktok folk = song is good and will be popular on the radio
Hadnāt thought of this angle
Yes. As much as we all like to think music is "good" or "bad", it's a lot of nostalgia. The "good" music we all had as a teenager is the music we all like. There is some decent stuff out there if you broaden your musical horizons.
Since I've started listening to nostr:npub1ua6fxn9ktc4jncanf79jzvklgjftcdrt5etverwzzg0lgpmg3hsq2gh6v6 I hear new music all the time. Plebs add tracks via the Jukebox and its great.
This is gold. I didnt know about this. Listening now and just queued up a song! Is there a place I can view the queue?
Do point it out. My horizon is wide open. Just everything sounds so bland and boring.
1. Too many cooks spoiling the broth. Some pop hits have 10-12 credits! You canāt produce anything memorable when youāre focused on pleasing ten or twelve people. You get the lowest common denominator.
2. Pop and rock songs from the 60s and into the 80s (90s in some cases) had key changes, wide dynamics, interesting harmonic structure including borrowed chords and other non diatonic elements, tempo changes, and interesting lyrics. All this led to more interesting melodies and emotional content.
3. Most of the classic rock musicians grew up in households hearing jazz and classical music. They knew the Great American Songbook and could play many of the tunes.
4. Heavy jazz, blues, folk, and classical influences.
Just started a 3 month free trial for Apple music. Found a decent amount of new songs that slap during workouts. I find new and older songs/albums I like pretty frequently.
Any particular ones you like?
It's an example of demoralization
For me trending stuff is always shit. Maybe you're just more perceptive now?
Iām open to all sorts of music but havenāt been hearing much of anything decent
Music is no longer designed as part of an artistic piece. It is designed to fit into specific spotify playlists. You can't take risks, because if it doesn't fit a genre, it doesn't make it into playlists. Spotify is killing music imo
I was arguing just the other day that we cannot call modern music āmusicā.
Music (the old one) is where actual people with actual talent (they can play instrument and sing) got together and created everything together.
Today āmusiciansā cannot sing (they use autotune) and most of the time the instrumental music is machine made and not human-made. There is no human talent and no human chemistry anymore (often individuals musicians can be ok, but when put together their chemistry make them amazing, I feel like this is lost)
So letās call modern music āneo-musicā or whatever, but calling it music is an insult to actual music and it has nothing to do with creating art and having talent anymore
Same reason public schools suck, good musicians leave the industry. And trending/top music is often based on a) connections b) payola c) network effects from established influencers d) fake numbers / botfarms. But there is great music out there, it just isn't always being created by the artists who choose a path through the mainstream. On apps like spotify I have had success finding good music based on what I already like, much more than the radio. There's real musicians no one has heard of all over the world.
