I did it! now it really is a cardigan 😱
all that's left is to finish the collar, tack down the raw cut edges and soak it in a warm bath to even out the stitching.

I'm nervous looking at this picture 😲. Great job!
I used my sewing machine to put in a straight line of stitching in the two columns next to the cut line. you can't see them in the photo which definitely adds to the nervous factor.
colorwork in the round plus steeking is totally worth it!
