*why i love #bitcoin and #nostr*

because it's not yet been co-opted by the bottom quintile.

these people control the world (indirectly) - we're all at the mercy of this bottom quintile. the rules exist to curtail their misbehaviour. the taxes you pay are required to support them. the greatest risks to your life, property and freedoms are due to them. the ruination of public spaces is due to their selfishness, their short-sightedness, their egotism, their narcissism and their tyrannous tendencies.

the tragedy of the commons is the tragedy of the bottom quintile.

new spaces flourish because this group are always laggards.

but eventually, sadly, they consume everything.

so enjoy it while it lasts.

I wouldnt be so sure about that. It's not the same project it was 1-2 years ago. Lots of dogma now.

nostr. Though bitcoin needs always to be alert. There were a couple of pseudo attacks fended off in bitcoin in the last 1-2 years. Namely the incription trolls, and the soft for drivechain deragement syndrome. Before that there was the "block size" war, which really was a governance war. And before that the foundation and Gavin, who were slowed down by the BIPs and other things. I think bitcoin is in quite good shape, but complacency should not be a word in our lexicon.

Its normally a bad sign when fiatjaf attacks bitcoin, which he ocassionally does. There is a lot of anti bitcoin FUD and propaganda around, which gets repeated. That normally coincides with some kind of fork push or other.

BTW why "bottom" quintile, rather than "top" quintile. I do like how you phrased it. It reminds me of Terence McKenna's "we are lead by the least among us".

Way more than a quintile of people are obsolete in the era the human race has created. Population decline in the 21st century will probably be closer to a half than a quintile I think
