I've been using it to take notes on what I've been reading, so simple but it sure does help in recalling some of the tedious details.

Nice. It works great. I use Logseq for that (similar, but different). Both are excellent. I think I like Logseq best for notes and Obsidian best for writing.

Wondering: How do you sync or back up your files? I recently started using Syncthing again. I don't like the idea of not having a backup. I would hate to lose all my note files due to a hardware malfunction.

Syncthing is also what I use, I think nostr:npub1dergggklka99wwrs92yz8wdjs952h2ux2ha2ed598ngwu9w7a6fsh9xzpc recommends it?
