I understand. I grew up catholic, just saying this pope did not make it easy for me to return to Catholicism. Here’s hoping they choose some one better now that Francis is gone.

Perhaps you need to simply zoom out and realize that Christianity is never easy, even if Christ's yoke is light, because we get in the way of ourselves.
Nobody can hope to be anything more than a pilgrim, in this life, for we see through the glass darkly. We are merely choosing which pilgrims' parade to join, and hoping to all join up at the destination.
"We see now through a glass in a dark manner: but then face to face. Now I know in part: but then I shall know even as I am known."
