True story. We never had to wear masks in the hematology / oncology ward until the b.s. of 2020.
It was ALWAYS on the patient to take responsibility for their white cell count when going out in public, which meant wearing an actually useful 3M “gas mask” looking thing—not a paper mask.
If a cancer patient had no white cells, they were in a contained room, their own air filtration, and you washed your hands before going in. That was it.
