Not to make light of it, the A train can be a shitshow at night so you still won?? Had a similar experience getting a taxi from Jersey City to Brooklyn at 3am. Couldn’t believe it when the driver wanted to charge me $100 for a 20-25 minute ride.
A train is horrible. So, yeah, riding it near midnight wouldn’t have been fun. $100 is crazy talk at 3am.
