It's so difficult to do IT project work with the newest crop of teenagers because they don't know how to communicate using a PC (like with e-mail), and they refuse to joint-edit cloud documents. They just screenshot everything and send it over WhatsApp, or ask ChatGPT.

Accurate as fuck and totally terrifying

Zoomers zoomin’ is real

I'm completely overwhelmed.

I put a slide set online and sent all 10 of them the link per e-mail and 8 couldn't figure out how to get emails and the rest don't like to use computers (hello? We're studying CompSci. 🙄)

So everyone just made their own slides and sent screenshots over WhatsApp. But I don't have WhatsApp, so I sent mine to someone over Telegram and he forwards it.

That is scary. I knew compsci was full of leftists, but didnt realize that meant they are also functionally retarded

being functionally retarded is the necessary precondition for obtaining leftism.

Usually technical degrees require a few neurons that arent perminently attached to government media reports

apparently you havent been to Uni in a while...

I think the nightmares have prevented that

Email in 2024?

Like it or not, ChatGPT is gay, but its one of the best tools avalible so you might just be old.

They keep using gmail or some other shitty client.

We actually all have emails from our uni's private OWA.

That’s actually great, why aren’t they using this ?

They can't figure out how to use it. Or don't want to figure it out.

The school has a webpage with easy instructions (click this link, type in username and password, click arrow button). You could even do it on your phone. Or add the email to your email app.

I don't get it. The teenagers I started out with were totally different. What a difference a few years makes.

Every now and then, we get a bad batch I guess.

WhatsApp is a German plague.

The kids don't use Google Docs anymore?

The most amazing thing is how most of them have never used version control software and that's legit like 25% of software development. When Git course?

git is unteachable. Its like driving, its a skill that needs to be developed with practice under supervision.

not my experience. They all use git for everything after their first programming discipline. Specially after the first time they miss some assignment due to a broken laptop or confusion over manually saved versions.

And they learned git when I was still using svn (decades ago)

and they send screenshots even of pure text outputs, which could be easily copy-pasted

like asking about compilation / dependency errors.

then you get MB of junk images.
