Say hello to https://silentpayments.xyz/

Wanting to learn more about Silent Payments, see which wallets support them, or find out how to integrate them into your wallet?

I've built out a website with all of that info and more to do what I can to speed up Silent Payments adoption.

Cool. Thanks for sharing

🥸👍

Are there any wallets supporting this yet?

Silentium (use with caution!) and Cake Wallet in beta.

Super cool!

Better features than PayNym BIP47? 👀

Cake wallet supports this now?

Yup, in beta.

Bitcoin trying to mimicking Monero? 🤣🤣🤣

lmao weird thing to say about the first cryptocurrency

What's weird about this?

nostr:npub1tr4dstaptd2sp98h7hlysp8qle6mw7wmauhfkgz3rmxdd8ndprusnw2y5g returned from Monero to Bitcoin because of the "there's no second best" dilemma.

Bitcoin privacy gets better, oh the horror!

it seems to absorb other projects. Why not Monero? If BTC improves its privacy using something useful from something else is this bad?

Thanks for making this

How does this compare to BIP 47 payment codes? Pros & cons?

This looks very useful. Thanks!

Hmm, isn't it trivial to find out the actual receiving address by doing timing analysis + knowing the exact amount?

My doubt as well, I have this definition in mind but I am not sure this is correct: "Using silent payments is like giving a sort of xpub to the sender so that it can generate a different address each time, but with the advantage that the sender only knows the address he or she generates and not every possible address"?

An attacked can perform a dust attack and look for consolidation, yes.

No addressing scheme can prevent that, has to be done client-side with dust filters, good coin control, and additional privacy tools like Coinjoin.

🔥🔥🔥

excellent! looking forward to more wallets adopting this

but what does this have to do with jpegs??

Awesome work Seth. Will take a good luck at this later. We appreciate you.

So onchain BOLT12, basically?

Can we settle on a standard. Like. #lightningnetwork We have lnurl and keysend. And low fees. We cannot keep inventing the wheel and then turn early adopters away.

On the topic of naming things: "reusable payment address"?

It's on GitHub, which is a huge mistake. Move it to Codeberg, and then work on it there!

Mistake privacy wise? Or censorship wise?

I'd say both. GitHub is absolutely proprietary, therefore it's not necessarily private on the front that Microsoft owns it, and a mistake privacy wise because of Copilot, which disregards any Free Software license.

Want people to adopt silent payments? Tie their support to human readable names and watch users demand the UX improvements :)

Hell yes!

Would love to see this paired with your proposal which I'm watching closely 🙂 Have been an OpenAlias user for years and love the step forward this is.

⚡️👏

If only the sender and receiver can connect it with on-chain activity, what's to prevent dust attacks?

No addressing scheme can prevent those. Has to be handled client-side to ignore dust and allow strong coin control.

What's your opinion on integrating this into Sparrow Wallet, nostr:npub1hea99yd4xt5tjx8jmjvpfz2g5v7nurdqw7ydwst0ww6vw520prnq6fg9v2?
