I love this quote from him:
"Architecture is the most difficult of professions, and he who would practice it must, above all things, be pious."
His buildings are said to have withstood several earthquakes over the centuries.

A wonderful perspective for the practice, and an unfortunately rare quality among many contemporary architects I know.
Often too much ego comes with the profession!
