Mimar (Architect) Sinan (c. 1489 – July 17, 1588) was the chief Ottoman architect and civil engineer during the reigns of Sultans Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murad III. He constructed over 300 structures in his life time.

He regarded his finest work to be the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne which he completed in 1575. ⬇️ nostr:note1vq8aau4vguug77szdyhhz7z7d0ypunrenm3yza9z779hf7prgc0s7tarmq

I love this quote from him:

"Architecture is the most difficult of professions, and he who would practice it must, above all things, be pious."

His buildings are said to have withstood several earthquakes over the centuries.

A wonderful perspective for the practice, and an unfortunately rare quality among many contemporary architects I know.

Often too much ego comes with the profession!
