I never see farmers protest all the subsidies and protections against competition they enjoy in many countries.

In California I hear they get cheap water for almonds which require insane amounts of water to grow, while taxing residents at ever higher rates due to water shortages.

I can easily believe it. Government should stay out of farming entirely. I remember watching a video of Milton Friedman (1980s I think) talking about the US government subsidizing tabacco farmers while also funding all of it's own anti-tobacco campaigns. His point was that shit gets ridiculous fast when government subsidizes things. Farmers are kind of getting what they had coming by being so cozy with government in the first place. I'm speaking from a US perspective, but I imagine it's similar in even more socialist countries.
Unfortunately, we will all literally pay the price of whatever happens. Same old story.
