I find “a threat to our democracy” an interesting term that’s been thrown around the past..well, forever it seems. Particularly from the left.

Here’s my fear - that even with democracy, such policies that infringe on human rights and go against our constitution, will still be praised as popular from the right or left if THEIR person is in power!

We need to protect civil liberties and human rights, even from the eb and flow of mob rule democracy, media manipulation, and straight propaganda

Agreed. While I don't like to be dismissive of concerns, the "threat to our democracy" claim always feels hyperbolic.

On the note of people praising when their team does something, I always try my best to remind people of a simple litmus test for policy: remember that the other team will have the same policy that they can use when they're in power - are you still okay with it? If the answer is "no", then it's a bad policy.

Seems so obvious, doesn’t it? And politicians, on either side, are rarely worthy of praise.

The key is the word "our". It is their definition of whatever they wish "democracy" to be. Not yours or mine or anyone else's, but their own twisted notion of what they would like it to be. And frankly; what democracy? Where does such a thing actually exist in its dictionary form?
