Did they think it would be lower?
My friend had to sell her house in April, her mortgage was going to go from 5k to 12k & she couldn't afford it
Note, we have 1 year variable rates in Canada unlike US, which are several % lower vs fixed 5yr

I suspect that this will be a very common occurrence in our major city centres.
