A lot of people make the self defeating mistake of equating any form organization as centralization.

The whole reason decentralization works, is because it enables *voluntary and competitive organization,* not because it prevents or is against organization in all forms.

To the contrary, if we don’t organize to build decentralized protocols and marketers, we simply lose. Organization is the point of all of this. A “foundation” or a formal group does not remotely mean control. nostr:note1u48lxj25wg9gtnugwdxd5z2raz0fpwemx7ks5svxqxa6kgvrwd7q9lta92

That’s supposed to say “markets” not “marketers” 🤦🏻‍♂️

What is Vitor saying? I don’t understand the purpose of such association.

It’s no different than having OpenSats pay out to certain developers, and then letting people “subscribe” to OpenSats similar to Patreon or something. He’s just using different terminology.

what's the point of subscribing or participating? no way that would amount to any meaningful sum of funds

Associations typically don't offer any returns. Think how the Rotary and Lions club work. People donate and participate in their meetings to do good, not to have any personal benefits from it.

What’s the difference between this and just donating to open sats?

Foundations, like OpenSats, are very top down. Their managers decide how to award grantees. Associations are generally bottom up. The presence of official members creates a different sense of accountability for each member and more discussions on the right use of the money.

Its just a very different way of doing the same thing.

Having a protocol for membership to specific projects, or rather just any Nostr account, I think would be valuable. The account could be an association that, as you have mentioned, has engineers contribute to multiple projects. It could also be to a project that works specifically on a set of projects, or single project, that they maintain.

Also useful here would be to have issue tracking and private support tickets as part of the protocol that is dedicated for members. Thus priorities can be determined based on that feedback.

That was a fun read, but I need to get off nostr and go centralize my closet..

Agreed. As always it‘s about the balance between chaos and order. Unite! But not too much.

Bitcoin is the schelling point to organize around.

The whole point of Bitcoin and Nostr is organization.

The best organized group wins.

We organize financially around Bitcoin.

We organize online around Nostr.

Programmatically, we are creating systems to organize around where we can't get rugged, where the rules are fair, and where our power is multiplied.
