Are Bitcoin ATMs private? Well, the privacy is relative to what you're willing to share and to whom.

If you don't want your bank to know that you're buying bitcoin, then you should definitely use an ATM with cash. But if you want to buy larger amounts, you will be subjected to the KYC/AML regulations of the land. In such a case, the government will know about your purchase – but your bank most likely won't.

Therefore, it's up to you to decide how you want to purchase bitcoin and with which privacy settings. Either way, consider that online exchanges are the least private way to buy Bitcoin.

Also, in most places (one happy exception I just recently found being Croatia) the ATM will ask you for a valid cellphone number.

It doesn't ask you for a phone number here in Romania either... granted that the amount is small 😅

Yeah, same in Croatia as far as I understood it. If you stay below the usual 1000-ish EUR KYC treshold you're good. In Spain though, even small amounts will require a phone number, which is absolute bullshit.

So far in my place it doesn't require a phone numbe either. Limit is 1000 € per transaction.

But you can repeat it as many times as you want... 😉

In case you need a burner phone number, use https://lnvpn.net/phone-numbers

Sweet! AFAIK Spanish BTC ATMs should accept ANY phone number. Not sure how that would work though since you can't select Spain, or the ATM service.

It is to mention that there are more and more possibilities to buy Bitcoin peer-to-peer (noKYC) as alternative to ATMs.

I recommend bisq (PC) or Peachbitcoin (mobile).
