They are completely different tools with completely different security and threat models, and Matrix does not provide remotely the same guarantees that Signal does.

In the Brave New World in which we now live, using Matrix in a use case where you actually need Signal could well lead to very serious consequences.

my reading of it is they are both much better than big corporate services. going forward, I value decentralization. however slightly better is the tech or trustworthy are the people currently running the org etc, I want a future with everybody able to communicate on one protocol and don't want anybody to dominate it. XMPP is a competitor but their usability is limited. thus #matrix
