I think the hole in the ozone layer was a bunch of made up bullshit too. Pretty sure ozone is just a result of the presence of oxygen + some sort of energy or radiation from space or the sun (it also forms around lightning strikes). CFCs are also significantly heavier than air, so the idea that they could interfere with a layer of the atmosphere that is 15miles above all weather seems pretty stupid. The reality was that dupont or dow or whoever it was had a patent expiring on their cheap to make refrigerants & they had created & patented a similar replacement molecule but they needed the one in use to be banned.
